Things to do in Oslob on a weekend | Tipid Trip #2

For some, summer is almost at it’s end; for others, summer is never ending. Those who thought the same of summer, might find this article helpful as I’ll share with you my latest Tipid Trip in Cebu.

Travelling doesn’t have to be expensive, in fact, in this trip I have only spent Php 1500 and the places I went to are exquisite.

As someone who is working an 8-hours job, weekend is probably the best time for me to go to the places in my bucket list and be one with nature. Most people might find the places featured in this article as mediocre but you should all know that I don’t really do mediocre so these places are at the top of their game for me.

The town of Oslob is famed for it’s Whale-shark Watching that has been frequented by many tourists including the princess of Thailand and it’s a good 3-4 hours drive from the bus terminal.

How to get there?

From the Cebu South Bus Terminal, ride a bus going to Oslob via Bato. You can also ask assistance to their staff there. The fare is only Php 150 for a regular (non-aircon) bus and Php 200 for an aircon bus (Oslob to Starmall only).

Their is also a terminal fee of Php 5 per person.

Places to See

Due to our limited time, we were only able to go to four places and these are Calle Aragones, Cuartel, Cangcuay Beach Resort and Sumilon Island. The Sumilon Island came as a bit of a surprise though because we never planned to go there as it’s way out of our budget, fortunately for us, we were able to join a group of friends from Manila, who happened to stay at the same resort, on their trip to the island.

Calle Aragones and Cuartel

Our first destination was the Cuartel and it’s adjacent Calle Aragones.

Calle Aragones is the oldest street in Oslob and its most famous feature is the Cuartel, a landmark ruins of a stone coral facility and was built to house Spanish troops assigned in the town. There are no entrance fees for these two locations though.

Cangcuay Private Beach Resort

We stayed at Cangcuay Private Beach Resort, a resort built in the cliff side and with various chances of an Instagram-worthy photos. Their rates are budget friendly and they also welcome walk-in guests.

They have free access to toilets and cottages. There is also no corkage fee.

You can check in any time from 6am and they are capable to host upto 50 persons, so it’s also perfect for team buildings and family outings.

We only cashed out Php 450 for our use of their tent and it already included a blanket, pillow and foam.

The owner is also very accommodating.

Sumilon Island

The trip to this island came as a bit of a surprise for us and we have decided to give it a go since we haven’t exceeded our budget yet.

We met a group of friends in the resort where we’re staying and they have invited us to join them on their island trip to Sumilon and so we did. We were only able to pay a Php 250 fee for the boat rental.

If you summed up the costs that I’ve mentioned in this article, it will only total to Php 1055 so that means the rest of our Php 1500 budget goes to our food.

So, that’s it for my Tipid Trip article. I hope you guys find this article helpful in your future travels.
